Spiced Hot Chocolate

I’m currently living in Nairobi where the weather tends to dip during the night considerably.

And while my mornings are filled with home-made iced-teas and lemonades, I can’t help but treat myself to a little hot cocoa every now and then before bed.

This one’s an easy 5 minute recipe. It’s warm, inviting and perfect for those chilly evenings. And if you’ve been good for the week, you could even sneak in a couple of cookies there like I do!

You will need:

1 cup milk (I drink low-fat milk and it tastes as good as any other)

1 tablespoon cocoa powder (I prefer cocoa powder to drinking chocolate because I like to add my own dose of sugar later, instead of having it overly sweet)

Sugar, to your preference (I usually take one teaspoon of brown sugar)

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

1 teaspoon of nutmeg

A book

& a blanket

Method:

1. Place a pan over medium heat and boil the milk.

2. Add in the cocoa powder, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir with a spatula till the milk is heated to your preferred temperature.

3. Strain the milk into your cup (I do this to remove any small particles of the ingredients so that my milk is smooth to drink.)

4. Stir in the sugar & voila! You’re done!
