It’s that odd hour of the day when it’s been a while since you had lunch but there’s more than just a couple hours left for dinner. What do you do? You grab a packet of crisps with dip and munch till your tummy is full of grease and satisfied (or not).

I’m here to save you one recipe at a time, and this one is as good to taste as an unhealthy option.

Apples are a water based fruit that are low in calories. They’re crunchy and sweet, and Granny Smiths are my favourite kind. Apples not only taste good, but are great for your teeth too. Their water content helps keep your stomach full for longer while keeping your sugar cravings at bay.

Cinnamon, on the other hand, is a major metabolism boosting spice. This mix of sweet and heat provides the perfect kick to your body. It’s loaded with antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties which help repair any type of tissue damage in your body. It also boosts immunity and lowers blood sugar levels. Basically, it’s a super spice!

Combining these two makes for a delicious snack. For when I have no time and am running to work or college classes, I dice up 1-2 apples and add a nice amount of cinnamon powder to it. Shake up the box and it’s perfectly mixed!

However, since the weather is getting chillier and you may be craving something hot and sweet while laying in bed, I have another option. Heat a saucepan with 200 ml of water and bring it to a boil. Throw in sliced apples and cinnamon powder and let it simmer. You’ll notice the apples get softer after 12-15 minutes, and the water reduce. You could add a spoon of honey for some more sweetness, or just eat it as it is.

This sautéed apples & cinnamon treat is something I usually throw on top of pancakes for a Sunday morning breakfast with my roomie, but it tastes delicious even by itself.
